Acid Reflux Treatment

To relieve acid reflux may be taken several measures. Raising the head of the bed about 15 cm, while the person sleeps, can cause the acid to reach into the esophagus. It may be helpful to avoid coffee, alcohol and other substances that strongly stimulate the production of stomach acid. It also follows the ingestion of an antacid, one hour after meals and one at bedtime to neutralize stomach acid and possibly reducing the passage of liquid acid through the lower esophageal sphincter.

The administration of drugs such as cimetidine or ranitidine may reduce gastric acidity. Should also be avoided certain foods (like fats and chocolate), tobacco and certain drugs (eg anticholinergics), anything that increases the tendency of the lower esophageal sphincter to let the liquid. Gastroesophageal reflux disease may be caused by:

* Spicy foods, tomato sauces, citrus, fatty foods, chocolate, coffee, alcohol and certain medications.

* Overeating, belch intentionally, wearing tight clothing, often bending over, lying down to finish eating, smoking.

* Physical conditions (particularly overweight)

* The effectiveness of the valve at the end of the esophagus, because it prevents substances from entering the esophagus from the stomach.

Medical Description for Gastroesophageal reflux

The gastro esophageal reflux is a disorder that causes regurgitation of stomach contents (including stomach acid) in the esophagus. The lining of the esophagus is not designed to withstand the onslaught of gastric juices, inflammation sets in, followed by burns and other symptoms of irritation of the esophagus. Acid Reflux Disease in Infants

The lower end of the esophagus is protected by a valve called the lower esophageal sphincter (LES). This valve opens to allow food from the esophagus into the stomach and then closes to protect the esophagus from stomach acid content. Several conditions can compromise the valve, allowing the stomach contents into the esophagus. As in adults, infants also suffer from heartburn occasionally. This is mainly due to the fact that children consume food mainly liquid and soft, which tend to be rich in protein newspaper. (more…)

Acid reflux in babies and young children

Many babies have problems with spitting up of this not require treatment. Their symptoms usually disappear after six or eight months. For some young children the symptoms are a sign of something serious, and they will need medical care. A doctor should be consulted if you have any concerns. Symptoms

The classic symptoms of gastro esophageal reflux is the burning in the breastbone (heartburn) and acid regurgitation.
Less common is the chest pain (especially behind the breastbone), which at times can resemble a cardiac pain.
Extra-esophageal symptoms are of different types, such as chronic cough, non-allergic asthma, hoarseness, sore throat.

Gastro-esophageal reflux

the esophagus is about 20-25 cm long channel that connects the mouth to the stomach.
Its inner lining is composed of a squalors epithelium with flat cells, layered like tiles, which help protect the esophagus by the passage of food and food can reflux from the stomach.

Gastroesophageal reflux: what not to eat shortly

The variation of gastric pH immediately after a meal is the cause of an increase in the incidence of gastroesophageal reflux. In some patients who suffer from this disorder has been identified a bag full of very acid gastric juice pH near the lower esophageal sphincter.
